I've never posted anything personal on the Affix site before, but this is too important for me to ignore. I opened up the blog to write about recent placements, but that needs to take a backseat today. I'm in recovery and I don't give a shit who knows. Because at the end of the day, it ain't about me. It's about planting a flag in the hopes that someone, somewhere sees it and gets the help they need. Jade is the guy in the left of this photo, and he's dead.
I met Jade at the 10 High when I heard Injected. I was floored by the band. My reaction wasn't unique. They had a team in place so I remained a fan. When I had the opportunity to work with Jade's new band, Steadlur, I jumped at the chance. Jade was smart, funny, engaging, charismatic, striking, intense and talented. But addiction trumped all of those qualities.
And that's my point. I didn't know I had a problem. I thought everything was fine, but it wasn't. Somehow when I heard what addiction truly was, I had to concede to my inner most self that I had a problem and I could not fix it alone. I asked for help and I got it. It is not easy. But if this post is a lighthouse in the fog for even one person, it's worth it. The odds are not great, but there are people that want to help you IF you want it.
